This year, the architect and mixed reality researcher Marina Lima Medeiros will participate in Kulturhackathon 2025. Marina had her first contact with programming during a hackathon, which turned into a hobby and later into an important aspect of her professional and academic career. With a Master’s degree in Urbanism, she is now pursuing a PhD at the TU Wien Informatics, researching interaction techniques in mixed realities to work and understand content of different scales.
Marina is passionate about interdisciplinary research. Since her master studies, she has explored how digital communication influences the use and perception of cities, focusing on the use of augmented reality to visualize cultural heritage in urban spaces. Later, she collaborated with artists in urban interventions, participated in maker clubs, and taught at universities in Brazil. Since 2018, she has been a researcher in Austria, at VRVis GmbH, where she develops virtual and augmented reality applications for professionals in different fields.
At Kulturhackathon 2025, Marina will bring her knowledge of mixed reality technologies and her interest in creating interactive applications with cultural artifacts, along with her current focus on exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the content of cultural institutions.
