ECHOES CASCADING GRANT 2: ETTOA – Enhancing Tourism Through Open Archives
3 Workshops for regional GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums)
Experience from previous projects shows that the data management practices of regional CHIs are generally not standardised. They use outdated technologies and are rarely introduced to modern data-driven approaches. Staff are often volunteers; they lack financial resources and are unable to keep up with the latest expertise. However, the volume of their data is enormous and highly specialised. In most cases, these regional cultural heritage institutions possess extensive data on very detailed topics that can be reused in many sectors of the economy, for example to enhance tourism applications in sophisticated ways.
We are developing an ONLINE programme for everyone to…
-
…transfer knowledge
-
…connect networks and engage with the cultural heritage cloud
-
…develop your own personal skills and build your capacity
And all this as part of a development programme for those with an interest in, and a commitment to, regional archives and museums
The programme is structured in three stages:
- Introduction to the Cultural Heritage Cloud
- The principles of the Open Data movement and the FAIR principles
- Making data AI-friendly
The ETTOA project aims to prepare these regions to contribute to the ‘Cultural Heritage Cloud’ and, in the long term, to enrich tourism through open archives and museums (ECHOES Call 3 in 2027) by reusing the data in other applications. The project focuses on the geographically contiguous areas covered by the national participants, i.e. the eastern and southern parts of Austria, the western part of Hungary and Slovenia. In order to engage with regional cultural heritage institutions, it is important to work in German, Hungarian and Slovenian.
